Low and fluctuating blood sugar is the reason some people light headed or sick when getting tattooed and a decent meal should help combat that. Use an anesthetic. There are anesthetics that are FDA-approved and specifically designed to alleviate and numb the pain of getting tattooed. If you are going to use an anesthetic check out the brand HUSH, which comes in a gel, spray and foaming soap to help numb the pain during and directly after getting a tattoo.

To deal with tattoo pain, eat a full meal and have some water before the appointment, and go to the bathroom right before you sit down to avoid discomfort. If you know you'll be in a lot of pain, take some acetaminophen before your appointment.

Hold something in your hand. Fidgeting with something in your hand helps to relax you on a psychological level and can also distract you from the pain. Listen to your favorite music. Listening to your favourite playlist can also be an effective way to relax. Choose one of the least painful areas for your tattoo.

Start drinking more water than average about 12 hours before your tattoo. Tip #4 Get Some Rest. It’s not unusual to feel tired after donating blood, right? Same with tattoos, too. Your body will naturally try to block out any tattoo pain by releasing adrenaline and endorphins. You’ll have more of these to go around if you’re well-rested. Tip #5 Namaste & Ink. Do you practice yoga?
