A tattoo has the ability to guide millennials into the specialness we so furtively desire, allowing us to feel significant, without actually asking us to do something significant. My hope is that my peers and I will pursue the kind of significance that leaves a mark on not only ourselves, but on everyone else as well. This could mean building a well in Honduras, volunteering once a week at your church’s high school ministry, or donating a portion of your paycheque to a local charity.

And in their adulthood have only found all of those promises to be lies, and all of their work to be for naught. So if they’re doomed to be a barista until the day they die, they might as well get that tattoo that keeps them connected to the little meaning and fulfilment they have in their lives.
