If the skin surrounding the tattoo area becomes raised, this may indicate that you are having an allergic reaction to the ink. Oddly enough, this is seen more often in those whose tattoos have colored ink – mostly red or yellow.

You should start moisturizing your tattoo as soon as it starts to dry — not before. This can generally take about 1–3 days after you got your tattoo. Be sure to wash and dry your tattoo with antibacterial soap and choose the appropriate moisturizer as well.
How long do you have to wait? After finishing your tattoo, your tattoo artist will most likely suggest that you wait at least 48 hours before strenuous physical activity and heavy sweating. The important words are “at least.” It generally takes 4 to 6 weeks for a wound to heal.
