It will sometimes be heated enough to cause second degree burns. Will it explode though? No. Sounds like fun doesn't it? There are even some MRI centers that won't do the MRI proceedure on a patient who has a tatoo since it's not possible in advance to tell whether the ink will, or won't be affected.
